Lacey London is the best-selling author Clara Andrews series. If you are a reader or author (which I believe you are if you found a way to my blog) you should follow her on twitter @thelaceylondon. Lacey London is not only best-selling author but also amazing person that I had the pleasure to ask a couple of question.
Her new upcoming book is Anxiety Girl with expected publication: April 7th, 2017 but you can pre-order Anxiety Girl now.
1.What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
My research varies depending on what it is that I am working on. My new novel, Anxiety Girl, has taken many years of research and is also based loosely on my own experiences with anxiety and depression.
2.Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?
Learning to grow a thick skin was the hardest thing that I had to do when deciding to write full time. It is never pleasant to hear that a reader did not enjoy your work, but accepting constructive criticism can help you in future projects.
3.What was your hardest scene to write?
Anxiety Girl deals with anxiety, depression and panic attacks. As I used my own experience with mental health as a base to create the story, the entire novel was quite difficult for me to write.
4.What is your favourite book and why?
I have so many favourite books. It would be impossible for me to pick just one!
5. If you had to do something differently as a child or teenager to become a better writer as an adult, what would you do?
I would have started writing earlier. As a teenager, I put my dreams of being a writer on hold to pursue different career options. Looking back, I wish I would have put my efforts into following my dreams sooner rather than later.
6.For someone who did not read Clara Andrews series how would you describe it in 5 words?
The Clara Andrews series has been described as, ‘modern-day Bridget Jones meets Shopaholic’ and I think that sums it up perfectly.
7.Give us an insight into your main character. What does he/she do that is so special?
Clara Andrews is a typical twenty-something who drinks too many cocktails and has fun with her friends. Clara is endearing, funny, clumsy and has a very big heart.
8.In what 5 words you would describe your upcoming book Anxiety Girl?
Original, brave, real, relatable and honest.
9.Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?
My day revolves around a laptop, a fluffy pair of slippers and a whole bunch of coffee. I set word count targets for every day of the week. The target varies hugely depending on what else I have in my schedule.
10.If you could choose one book as a must-read in high schools, what book would it be?
Although it’s not technically a book, I would say Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare’s ability to entwine comedy with tragedy is something that I have always found fascinating.
11. For your own reading, do you prefer ebooks or traditional paper/hard back books?
Good question! As with most readers, I adore the feeling of an actual book in my hands, but e-readers allow us to explore a whole world of adventures at the click of a button. I love them both, just in different ways.
12.Do you think that the cover plays an important part in the buying process?
People say that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but unfortunately, we all do it. I think that the cover is extremely important as it is the first thing people see when they pick up your product.
13.What are you working on at the minute?
I am currently working on the next book in the Anxiety Girl series. Watch this space…
